FBI’s wallet pranked while authorities decide what to do with Bitcoins seized from Silk Road

While the North-American federal authorities are still deciding what to do with the 26,000 BTC seized from the illegal marketplace Silk Road, busted last Wednesday (2), their cryptocurrency wallet was identified and is getting micropayments with very creative messages from some outraged Bitcoiners.

According to ZDNet, the FBI’s address is getting several payments of around 0.00000001 BTC, which are coming with “special” messages attached. Here are some of the most original public notes:

‘Cause you know what, the musicians that made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years were rrreal fucking high on drugs. The Beatles were so fucking high they let Ringo sing a few tunes.

I loved when Bush came out and said, “We are losing the war against drugs.” You know what that implies? There’s a war being fought, and the people on drugs are winning it.

This page shows how Bitcoin is more transparent than the US government.

The fight against drug trafficking is a wildfire that threatens to consume those fundamental rights of the individual deliberately enshrined in our Constitution.

Many items sold through Silk Road were perfectly legal.

They’ll say we’re disturbing the peace, but there is no peace. What really bothers them is that we are disturbing the war.

There is no way to know whether these funds were to be used for illicit purchases. Users should be allowed to withdraw their funds.

Obama. Your war on drugs is terrorism. If you banned breathing we would all be criminals. Prohibition is terrorism. Your war on immigrants is terrorism. Human beings are not illegal because of superstitious imaginary lines on a map.

However, it seems that the FBI has not yet been able to figure out exactly how much Ross Ulbricht’s personal Bitcoin account has. The authorities suspect of a stash of nearly $80 million worth of Bitcoin, a value compatible with the criminal complaint against Dread Pirate Roberts, which claims that his commissions were around $80 million or 600,000 BTC.

The disparity of values was recently analyzed by the site TechDirt, which points out that people might have “notice the disconnect between the 26,000 Bitcoins seized and the supposed 600,000 Ulbright made. It now comes out that those 26,000 Bitcoins aren’t even Ulbricht’s”. They are actually from Silk Road’s users.

This comes to show the huge amount of doubts still surrounding the Silk Road’s case, especially when it comes to the money. ForexMinute reports that some observers estimate that the government may give the Bitcoins back to the users in an auction. On the other side, experts say that the FBI may liquidate them. A spokesperson for the FBI revealed to a Forbes’ journalist that this will probably be the decision.

The executive director of the Bitcoin Foundation showed some concern about this possibility. If the FBI liquidates the 26,000 BTC seized, that would definitely have a temporary impact on the cryptocurrency market because the supply would diminish, said Jon Matonis. Currently, the United States authorities are a major Bitcoin owner, as they have almost $3.6 million in Bitcoin.
