“Collector” that leaked naked pictures of Jennifer Lawrence expected heftier Bitcoin reward

The internet is on fire due to the results of the latest major hack, which targeted accounts based on Apple’s iCloud. The hacker responsible for the attack stole dozens of private images belonging to several celebrities such as the actress Jennifer Lawrence or the model Kate Upton. Most pictures show the celebrities naked and in intimate situations.

Following the hack, the images were allegedly bought with Bitcoin by a “collector”, who expected to make more money by publishing samples and then selling the pictures online. The suspect first published the pictures this Sunday (31st) on the controversial website 4chan, but it didn’t take a long time until the images were copied and distributed around the web.

“I didn’t take the money and run. S**t got weird once I started posting samples”, he or she wrote on 4chan, according to the Independent. The “colector”, who was trying to get a hefty BTC reward for releasing the photos, then lamented the low profit made with the deal.

People wanted s**t for free. Sure, I got $120 with my Bitcoin address, but when you consider how much time was put into acquiring this stuff (i’m not the hacker, just a collector), and the money (I paid a lot via Bitcoin as well to get certain sets when this stuff was being privately traded Friday/Saturday) I really didn’t get close to what I was hoping.

Things got even harder for the original publisher as soon as the pictures went viral. According to the “collector”, his or hers goals were ruined “mainly because of the extra Bitcoin spammers spamming their own address, taking my original posts and passing them off as their own to try and get Bitcoin. But also because of the skeptics. I proved I had s**t, but people wanted more and more for free”.

But that is not all. The person that leaked the images also says that someone started tracking his or hers online movements as soon as the first samples were posted on 4chan.

The case is still generating controversy around the web. Images of more than 100 celebrities including Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, Kirsten Dunst, Ariana Grande, Victoria Justice and Selena Gomez were released. Although some of them have already admitted the authenticity of the photos – at the same time condemning the leak -, other celebrities like Justice and Grande have said the images are fake.
